Celeste's Blog

Welcome!

I am trying to begin writing more. I hope to get back into my discipline of journaling that I have been out of for so many years. Maybe having a blog will give me a forum or motivation to do more daily/weekly writing.

This weekend we are contemplating moving across the road to a different house in a slightly different neighborhood. The house is new and very nicely done with a bit more space and lots of light. It is also in a more convenient location for our children’s carpool to school, most of all the rent is significantly cheaper, which would ease the strain on MCC’s overall budget. We have a difficult landlord where we are now, and have probably been overcharged from the beginning. We’ve heard that this new landlord has a pretty good reputation. If we move, we will miss our neighbors that we have gotten to know here and our big avocado tree, but otherwise it seems like a pretty simple decision. The hardest thing will be the move itself. Things happen so slowly here in Africa, repairs, buying essential supplies and appliances, etc. Our move 6 months ago is still fresh in our minds, yet I’m sure this one would be much easier. We now know the culture and the area so much better, and at least we won’t be struggling with jet lag and a brand new language to top it off. I surprise myself that I am for this move, because for months I have put my foot down saying I don’t want to move from this house.

Right now at work, I am beginning to prepare for a trauma healing training of trainers workshop coming up in June. I look forward to developing my facilitation skills, and being able to offer some of my skills in trauma recovery to Rwandans and Congolese who are dedicating their lives to accompanying their families, neighbors, and communities on journeys of healing. Friends Peace House workshops usually include lots of little games and activities that get people up and moving, called “Light and Livelies”. These combined with the inspiration of delving deeply into topics that are important to people contribute to the fact that FPH workshops are always an incredibly fun, rich, rejuvenating experience for me. I am really looking forward to helping facilitate for this one.

We know it will not be easy, to move so quickly, but I think you made the right decision. Celeste, I must tell you when I read what you share with us I feel like I am right there with you. You have such a gift for conveying your feelings and thoughts. I can see you and Aaron growing spiritually on this journey also. God Bless You and know you are always with us in thought and prayer.

"Light and Livelies," I love the term. It just seems to say so well the purpose and result for which they are intended. I'm so happy that you get to particpate in "light and Livelies," as I imagine they lighten life for you, too. Moving to a new home can be overwhelming, especially having just moved only six months ago, but I have no doubt that you and Aaron will make the right decision. If you do move, I would think that it would be much less overwhelming than moving half way around the world.
I agree with Sara in that you have a gift for conveying your thoughts and feelings. Love exudes through every word. Thank you for your willingness to share. It really does offer me, and I know, others, so much. Our gifts are meant to share. In spirit, I feel that I am with you, Aaron, David, and Eli every day. Thank you for starting this blog. The heart knows no distance.
